Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had been holding the reins as the acting Governor of Ondo State, has officially assumed the position of Governor following the untimely demise of his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in Germany on December 27.

The solemn swearing-in ceremony, conducted by Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola, marked the official transition of power. Aiyedatiwa, who had been serving in an acting capacity for several weeks, took the oath at 4 pm in the state capital, Akure.

Having learned of Governor Akeredolu’s passing while on a Christmas break in his hometown, Aiyedatiwa swiftly returned to Akure for the formalities of assuming the gubernatorial role.

In his address to the gathered audience, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed the heavy heart with which he accepted the responsibility of leading the state, acknowledging the devastating shock caused by the sudden loss of Governor Akeredolu. He shared that the state had fervently hoped for Akeredolu’s quick recovery and safe return as he embarked on a medical leave on December 13, 2023.

The transition of leadership in Ondo State comes at a critical time, and Aiyedatiwa emphasized his commitment to continuing the developmental trajectory initiated by his predecessor. The late Governor Akeredolu, during his tenure, had been at the forefront of implementing various infrastructural and social projects in the state.

As Governor Aiyedatiwa assumes office, the state is poised to navigate the challenges ahead, and the administration is expected to focus on maintaining stability, ensuring effective governance, and addressing the needs of the people.
