Christian Atsu, a victim of the earthquake that struck Turkey last month, is being remembered by hundreds of people, including the president of Ghana.
A funeral service for him was held in his honour in front of State House in Ghana’s state capital, Accra on Friday.
“In life I love you darling, in death I’ll do the same,” read the tearful tribute from the footballer’s widow, Marie-Claire Rupio.
Inconsolable, she gave Atsu’s sister the speech’s remaining passages to read: “You did not go alone, for part of me went with you,” it continued. “Your smile, your love I see in our children’s smiles.”
Atsu was honoured at a ceremony alongside members of the Ghanaian national team and Hatayspor, the man’s Turkish club.
