Barcelona Women’s Historic 62-Match Winning Streak Ends

Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Sevilla marked the end of a historic run of 62 victories in a row in the women’s premier division.

Jonatan Giraldez’s team tied the Andalucians to end a world record streak in both the men’s and women’s games, even though they had already won Liga F for a fourth straight season.

After Cristina Martin-Prieto’s goal for Sevilla, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic equalised for Barcelona in the 80th minute.

Since losing to Atletico Madrid in June 2021, the Catalans had not suffered a league loss before the Swiss winger’s goal. After that defeat, Barcelona started its winning streak.

As Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas made his comeback from tearing an anterior cruciate ligament last summer, the Champions League finalists won the league title with a 3-0 victory over Huelva in April.

Prior to taking on German team Wolfsburg in the Champions League final on June 3, Barcelona has two league matches left to try to finish a second consecutive undefeated season.
